One of the best ways to create mutual respect between people and the planet is through travel. People are able to change the world through travel. That is why traveling is not only fun but necessary for humans to do in their lifetime.
There is a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the world through travel. They are called Tourism Cares. Their website says, “Since its inception, Tourism Cares is known for bringing all sectors within the travel industry together to create positive change. Whether it’s been helping in disaster relief efforts or planning for our industry’s future, when Tourism Cares calls, the travel industry has always responded. From valuable networking opportunities to creating connections to solve specific challenges, we bring travel together.”
One of the many things Tourism cares has done is create a featured experience on their Meaningful Map called, “SASANE Sisterhood Trekking and travel.” SASANE Sisterhood, “trains female human trafficking survivors as trekking guides to lead tours through rural mountain villages in Nepal, in order to reduce – and ultimately eliminate- further trafficking, gender-based violence and child marriage in those communities.” They hope to create a responsible tourism company in the near future. This featured experience is very much needed because 24.9 million people are trafficked for forced labor. The sex trafficking statistics are shocking as well. There are 3.8 million adults trafficked for sexual exploitation and 1 million children as well.
Tourism Cares has also supported conservation efforts for public lands. Tourism Cares supported a grant donated to them to the Vital Ground Conservation. This permanently protects 10 acres of land by Glacier National Park, protecting the animals and wildlife safe within that area.

Tourism Cares was established in 1998 and has a long way to go. We can all start by supporting this nonprofit organization and traveling sustainably.
